Genetic counseling services
GeneDx offers comprehensive genetic counseling services with a referral from your healthcare provider.
A genetic counselor is a healthcare professional who can help you better understand the genetic testing process and, after your results are available, explain the findings on the report.
Our services include:
- A consent education video that provides an overview of exome and genome testing, as well as your consenting options.
- Post-test genetic counseling discussion* to better understand your results and potential next steps.
- Phone appointments with flexible scheduling options, including evening availability.
- Support and guidance for you and your family, including connecting you with support groups for ongoing assistance.
*GeneDx manages referral to third party genetic counselors when required by insurance. Some insurance companies may mandate referral to an independent genetics professional, in which case the billing will be directed to the patient’s insurance.

Patient Advocacy
GeneDx partners with patient advocacy organizations to help families like yours access education, find community, and explore research opportunities. Read about organizations we partner with below or contact our patient advocacy team directly.

Can’t get a referral?
Often, your existing healthcare provider can order your testing or provide a referral to a genetics expert. For times when that’s not an option, GeneDx has collaborated with Genome Medical, a leading genetic counseling services company. This program connects families to telehealth providers who can discuss genetic testing and, if appropriate, order the test.
